Changing Gender Landscapes in Traditionally Single Gender Student Organizations

Em M. Smith
Dr. David Price and Dr. Michelle Kleine, Faculty Mentors

Student organizations are largely changing entities that must frequently adapt in accordance with the times. With understandings of gender construction and identity shifting and progressing, traditionally single-gender organizations may be required to modernize their views of membership and meaning. Communicative Constitution of Organizations (CCO) argues that organizations emerge in and are sustained and transformed by communication. This study seeks to understand what, if any, changes organizations are experiencing as a result of changing gender landscapes and policies at the local and national level.
