The Effectiveness of Cupping on Acute Low Back And Shoulder Pain and Muscle Soreness
Cupping is an ancient Chinese treatment. Originally cupping was done with a cattle horn or the cross section of bamboo. The idea of these devices was to provide suction to the areas of discomfort on the body. The modern method uses cups that are made of glass and that are mechanized to use electric pumps. The use of cupping is gaining popularity; as it is easy for clinicians to learn, and has reported low adverse effects, as well as, effective reduction of muscle tenderness and pain, especially in the low back.
The use of dry cupping eliminates the risk of potential spread of blood borne diseases. Cupping is often used as a symptomatic treatment for a wide range of conditions, like low back and shoulder. Its effects are to improve subcutaneous blood flow and to stimulate the autonomic nervous system.
