With Bated Breath: A New Composition for Saxophone and Orchestra

With Bated Breath is a reflection on a concrete real-life event in an abstract musical form. Roughly one year ago, my boyfriend stopped breathing and his heart stopped beating entirely. After I rushed him to the emergency room, he was intubated and put into a medically induced coma, and was expected to remain in that state for several weeks. Whether he would wake up with full brain capacity—whether he would wake up at all—was unknown. With Bated Breath, a musical composition for solo saxophone and orchestra, explores my state of mind during this distressing period.
