Finding the Digestive Efficiency of Red Milk Snakes in Relation to Meal Size and Type
The digestive efficiency of an animal determines the amount of energy and resources it can allocate. Determining this gives us a better understanding of the animal in question. We propose to investigate the apparent digestive efficiency of Lampropeltis triangulum syspila, the Red Milk Snake, in relation to meal size and type. In short, we propose this by creating 4 different treatments for feeding the subjects: small mouse, large mouse, small lizard, and large lizard. We will record the energy the meal is worth by using a standard curve and use a bomb calorimeter to then measure the energy left in the feces of the subject.
