Contortion to Vulnerability
This work is the central image in a series of conceptual self-portraits I have completed for my Photography course. In this series I explore the concept of everyone using a costumed version of themselves to both please others and guard themselves. I use the sheet to embody this internal and conscious costume and my nude body in hostile environments to amply this element of vulnerability. The contorted posture I modeled in this photograph is a call back to the male nude in art history, especially to my personal favourite sculptor, Praxiteles.
