Clinical Process Commentary (CPC) Research on Communication Disorders Graduate Students

Lauren Thierry* and Madison Rozycki
Dr. Amy Teten, Faculty Mentor

This research will focus on assessing student perceptions of value (if any) achieved through the Clinical Process Commentary (CPC) process in the Communication Disorders department at Truman State University. A CPC is a presentation that the Communication Disorders students must give to demonstrate their knowledge on a specific client and clinical skills. Perceptions of this process will be gleaned from students in each stage of the program (before CPC 1, during CPC 1, after CPC 1 is completed, during CPC 2). Through qualitative methodology, we hope to identify the students’ perceptions of the CPC and its influence on future plans through audio-recorded interviews. We will interview five students from each of the four stages to gauge their feelings and thoughts about the CPC process. After gathering data through audio recording and transcribing, we will analyze the data to identify common themes among participants.
