Audio Processing and the Synthesizer

Alexander A. Kartje
Dr. Ian Lindevald, Faculty Mentor

In this presentation I will give a detailed overview of the inner workings of synthesizers through the perspective of audio signal processing. Signal processing is the act of generating, modulating, and otherwise shaping a signal. The synthesizer is an instrument that combines these aspects of signal processing and creates its own audio signals. The variety of signal processing tools available makes synthesizers capable of not only imitating other instruments, but also making truly unique electronic sounds. I create and test analog circuits for each of the major components of a synthesizer and combine them into a working musical instrument.
