Elizabeth R. Revelle* and Christina Rudolph
Dr. Jerry Mayhew, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this study was to asses the nutritional knowledge of student athletes. The athletes were assessed using a 20 question survey addressing the areas of nutrition based on general nutrition, hydration, management of weight while being an athlete, and supplements to enhance performance of an athlete. In order to have passing knowledge level the students had to achieve a 75% average for each section. For the general nutrition and weight management section 20% of the athletes had a passing level of sports nutrition knowledge. The supplementation section of the survey indicated 60% of athletes indicated knowledge understanding. The hydration section had 40% of the participants pass with applicable knowledge. The athletes are expected to perform at high levels in their sports, but the athletes are not showing the sports nutrition knowledge to enhance their level of performance and maintain a healthy being.
