A Comparative Essay on the Benefits and Setbacks of the United States Healthcare System Versus the French Healthcare System

Erin C. McCart
Dr. Sana Camara and Dr. Erin Joyce, Faculty Mentors

For my capstone research project, I will be showcasing the similarities and differences between how the United States healthcare system and the French healthcare system operate. I will specifically examine the costs of medical care for citizens of both countries. It is known that the price of procedures, medications, and doctors appointments are costly in the United States, as a result of the establishment of capitalism in this country. On the contrary, in France, these benefits are generally cheaper because greater access to healthcare is guaranteed to citizens of a more socialist country. This subject will be explored within my project, along with the treatment of patients by medical professionals in both countries. I will additionally discuss how each countries’ government approaches the subject of abortion in their policy-making, when it comes to healthcare for women.
