A Feminist And Marxist Analysis of Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis

Abigail A. Charlton
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis is a graphic memoir that tells the story of a young girl living in Iran during the time of the Islamic Revolution. I will analyze Persepolis through a Feminist and Marxist lens and discuss how the story being told from a young Marjane’s perspective shapes the story. I will also examine how the images within this graphic novel help to convey these ideas and enhance the meaning and emotion of the story.
