Karamat Lone: How the Lone Wolf’s Character and Motivations Affected His Life and Family in Home Fire
This paper will examine the character Karamat Lone, a Pakistani Muslim and home secretary of Britain in Kamila Shamsie’s Home Fire. Delving into the complexities that inform his personal and political self, I will analyze his transformation from an impoverished childhood spent in a cramped apartment, studying and working every chance he could to a political life that took him from a Member of Parliament to Home Secretary. I will further show how his prioritizing of his political ambition lead to him walking away from his religion and community.
