Synthesis of an Intermediate for an APOBEC3 Antagonist

Alex Stricklin
Dr. Justine R. Olson, Faculty Mentor

APOBEC3 is a protein that’s highly expressed in late stage and aggressive cancers. A potential therapeutic antagonist was identified by Miller Lab using computational methods, and our research is focused on synthesizing the candidate. The antagonist can be synthesized in three steps with two main intermediates. The first intermediate in the synthesis is from a Friedel-Crafts addition type reaction.   Progress in developing the product of the first step will be discussed.
