Biblical Feminism: Gender Politics in the American Evangelical Culture War

Kennedy Cooper
Dr. William Ashcraft, Faculty Mentor

Biblical Feminism has had a large impact on the political stances of the Religious Right, as well as on American Politics. The Religious Right has become more conservative in response to secular feminism, but Biblical Feminism fills a unique niche in their theology and political views. This paper will discuss the impact that biblical feminism has had on the religious right. It will first go through the last 100 years, and talk about the religious right's reactions to gender issues throughout history, and why they reacted this way. Then this paper will discuss the rise of Biblical Feminism, how it has evolved, and how it impacted the political goals of the religious right.
