Behind the Photovoltaic Panel: An In-Depth Investigation of Truman State University’s Solar Power Generation
More solar energy hits the earth in one hour than is consumed by humans over the course of a year. Solar technology and production have been under constant development and innovation but remains a small factor in global power generation. This study briefly reviews Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies, and highlights the pros and cons. Then, I turn my focus to the implementation of Photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays – specifically locally in Kirksville, Missouri. I use the solar arrays located on the campus of Truman State University to analyze the production of solar energy, cross reference with local solar irradiance, and compare the experimental to theoretical efficiency.
