Misconceptions about the Economics Discipline

Heidi L. Royer
Dr. David Gillette, Faculty Mentor

I have experienced first hand the incomplete and often completely incorrect ideas that people have about the meaning and study of “economics.” The goal of this project is to empirically identify common misconceptions surrounding the study of economics and use my personal, and peer experience and research within the discipline to contribute to a more accurate narrative of economics. I will present collected survey data regarding these misconceptions, discuss the themes suggested by  the data, and provide evidence responding to these perceptions.
