Impacts of Governmental Power, and Assistance, Specifically Food Subsidies on Native American Identity and General Health
Western interference in Native American lands has long dealt significant damage to their population dating back to the 1600's. From relocation, to cultural assimilation, to forced reliance on the government for basic needs, the Native populations of this country have not had it easy. The aftermath of these issues played out into policy has left these populations vulnerable. American Indians hold the highest poverty rates of any other race group as well being among the most at-risk for ‘western diseases’ such as Diabetes. This paper will research the measure of impact or causality of western interference and their relative services like food subsidies which have negatively affected the overall health of the American Indian population.
