The Impact of Religiosity on Student Life

Griffin C. Turnage
Dr. Anton Daughters, Faculty Mentor

This study seeks to determine the role of religiosity in students’ lives, and the impact it has on mental health. For many college students, mental health is a pressing concern. Students were randomly selected from Truman State University to answer survey questions. The goal of the survey was to determine belief orientations, practices and rituals that impact mental health. Beyond measuring religiosity, the research looks to other factors that might impact mental health that relate to religious practices, including the use of drugs, alcohol, social support, and religion. The study finds statistically significant outcomes showing that belief orientation is positively impactful in the management of stress and depression for college students.
