The Dimensions of Oppression on the Black American Woman

Black women have always been oppressed through different dimensions. They have been victims of not only sexism but racism as well. Along with any other -ism that they are tied to. Due to this, black women are still the most oppressed minority group in the United States. For decades, they have been undermined, over-sexualized, abused and have been victims of misogynistic aggressions. It’s also notable that the black woman is still oppressed by her own counterpart, the black man. These acts are mental weapons used against them to make them feel inferior. From the perspective of a black woman, this essay will be providing knowledge of the oppression that black women face by analyzing the origins of their oppression, importance of intersectionality, their ignition of and fight during the civil rights movement, colorism, the harmful effects of daily life in society, and how black women are currently overcoming it.
