Movements, Home Range and Habitat use of Timber Rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus) in Northern Missouri

The goal of this project is to analyze movement rate, habitat use and home range of the Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) in Northern Missouri. The study site for the project is Crowder State Park in Trenton, Missouri. The goal of the project was achieved by the use of radio telemetry to serially relocate snakes. Macrohabitat and microhabitat data were analyzed via principal component analysis to determine habitat use. Home range size as the Minimal Convex Polygon, 50% and 95% Kernel Density were determined using ArcGIS. Movement rate was calculated as minimum straight line distance. The findings of this project will add to the scientific understanding and our knowledge of the natural history of the species, and may aid in developing management and conservation action plans for this species of conservation concern.
