Lithium-Ion Batteries: Solvating the Problems
Ever wondered how the magic boxes in your computer and phone provide power and what sceintists are doing to improve them? This presentation will breifly discuss current commerical Lithium-ion batteries and why there is a need for all-solid-state Lithium-ion batteries (ASSLIBs). However, ASSLIB commericialization is currently hindered, and there is a need for a breakthrough in such technology. During my Summer 2018 Research Experinece for Undergraduates at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Andrew Gewrith, solvate-solid electrolyte hybrids were shown to have the potential to replace current commerical Lithium-ion batteries and provide a means for the next generation of batteries. The results and implications of this research will be highlighted in this presentation.
