Does Work Affect Your GPA?
As many students enter college, they consider obtaining a job to pay for expenses. Some view this as a hindrance to grades, while others believe it promotes hard work and perseverance. I examined 173 responses to a survey regarding Grade Point Average (GPA) and working an off-campus job to see what the students themselves experienced. The surveys were sent in a blind email, so their responses could not be traced to them, promoting honest answers. It was my belief going into this study that working an off-campus job may lower a student’s GPA by decreasing the number of hours they study or spend on homework per week. Survey results imply that different social aspects may increase a student’s likelihood of obtaining a job and there may be a difference in the effects of working an on-campus job versus off-campus.
