Digital Writing for Student Self-Identification
To appeal to the diverse students of the modern English classroom, an updated curriculum is required to support students in self-identification during their formative high school years. Using digital writing, students have a space where they can write authentically, exploring multicultural and linguistic diversity, and improving digital literacy skills. This study tasked students with creating personal identities through creative and analytical writing on student-run blogs. Important topics students explored during this process related to student agency, creative expression, personal purpose, and overcoming social barriers. Digital writing allowed for a familiar platform to perform tasks required for the English curriculum and at the same time allowed for students to explore their purpose as writers.
