Power Loss of Light from Diffractiong Gratings
We have examined how reflective diffraction gratings absorb light. The absorption of a diffraction grating depends upon the grating spacing and the incident angle, polarization, and wavelength of the light. Previous research shows that absorption can go as high as 50%. Our results are measured against the concept of surface plasmon resonance, which is oscillation of free electrons on the surface of the diffraction grating. Additionally, we show that the results yield a peculiar asymmetry, which we will try to explain.
