Memory and History in Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children

Saleem Sinai worries over the factual and historical errors in his memory within the Midnight's Children story. Locating my study within the postcolonial and postmodern theoretical framework, this essay will explore Saleem’s confusion of memory and history. Recalling Churchill’s adage “History is written by the victors”, I further look at how Midnight’s Children demonstrates the ways in which the “victor’s” history invalidates the memory of the people who lived through it.
