Form 990 the Filing Exemption for Certain Nonprofits

Trinh T. Le
Dr. Stacey Kaden, Faculty Mentor

The Form 990 is a public report used for nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt and often include aspects such as assets, expenses, and revenues, while also letting others who may be effected by this information see activities that occur underneath these organizations. The Form 990 is used for many reasons, such as donators who may want to see the financial aspects of nonprofits. There are many organizations, like the Truman State University Foundation, that have to file a Form 990. However, many organizations, such as public schools and churches, are not required to file. My research includes a varied exploration of differentiating factors, as well as an inspection of those required to file the form.
