Public Perceptions of Noise Levels

Laura M. Woods* and Corrine E. Reeves
Dr. Ilene Elmlinger, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this project is to assess college students’ perceptions of dangerous sound exposure and the prevalence of it in SAB and Aquadome sponsored events.

All subjects will be asked to complete a survey regarding their perception of noise exposure during SAB and Aquadome sponsored events.  Half of the participants will be given information regarding noise exposure and hearing loss prevention. Decibel level measurements will be taken at SAB and Aquadome events and a post survey will be administered following the events to assess if the educational information increased the likelihood of students wearing ear protection.
