3metrius: A One-Act Play
Arthur L. Virnig*, Max D. Glenn, Gavin B. Conkling, and Nate J. Sullivan
Prof. Joan Mather, Faculty Mentor
3metrius was written in April of 2009 by Truman student Nate Sullivan, and performed in October of that year at the Kansas City Fringe Festival. It is a short, one-act play that expands upon Shakespeares universe, and explores the unlikely collision of three of his plays: Antony and Cleopatra, Titus Andronicus, and A Midsummer Nights Dream. Each of these plays features, to a greater or lesser degree, a character named Demetrius, hence the title, 3metrius. Through a mixture of the original text and the imaginings of both the playwright and the actors (Max Glenn, Gavin Conkling, and Arthur Virnig), the play delves into the personal tensions and unexpected comedy of the hypothetical interaction of the characters. The presentation will consist of the performance, followed by a question and answer period about both the play and its presentation at the Kansas City Fringe Festival. Needed props: Two chairs. One sofa.
