Students’ Perceptions of Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Health Science
Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) are commonly used in health science classrooms, but there has been little research conducted evaluating the effectiveness and perceptions of TAs. Through a series of in-depth qualitative interviews with undergraduate health science students, this study evaluates students’ perceptions of TAs in health science courses. The primary questions investigated were: What are students’ perceptions of TAs in the classroom? What are students’ expectations of TAs in the classroom? How has having a TA in their classroom impacted their learning experiences? Addressing the gap in the current literature will aid in future departmental programming and serve as a foundation informing future practice.
