Drama/Play-Acting Activities in the English Classroom

Many education scholars argue that classrooms have become increasingly dull. One potential method to counteract this lack of energy is to introduce elements of play, specifically drama/play-acting activities. Through this research, I seek to introduce elements of drama/play-acting activities to 24 sophomore world literature students in order to observe how engagement and critical thinking are impacted. Lessons for this research involve students participating in a variety of drama/play-activities in conjunction with an anchor text. Students may also participate in class discussions, conferences, writing and/or projects, and self-assessments in order to demonstrate their engagement and critical thinking. By studying the impact of drama/play-acting activities on students, teachers can better understand how to infuse their classrooms with one element of play.
