The Angry Black Woman Complex

Societies are obsessed with the stereotypes of minorities. They are quick to articulate with is wrong with others, and slow to realize we are the problem. Often the stereotypes that are focused on are the negative ones. For black women, most people focus on the aspect of anger, aggression, and uncontrollable lust. What is ingrained in people is considered the "norm". Our society is not conscious enough to care about making a change about this stereotype. The goal of this presentation is to focus on the historical origins of stereotypes that fit into the category of an angry black woman. We will look into the historical perceptions, modern perceptions, the impacts of media, and the position of black women in society. Lastly, the paper will analyze the black woman's narrative and it will connect real-world applications we can use to alter the negative perceptions society has created of black women.
