White Teachers, Black Students

Deja Davis
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Classrooms in public schools in the United States are becoming more diverse, yet the teachers do not reflect the change in the demographics. Having teachers from a different background than mine, for example, led to my sense of frustration and of the other black students. Ironically, this is what encouraged me to want to become a teacher. Not seeing teachers who looked like me or my black classmates, we felt we were not represented in the education system. This paper will analyze the ways in which race impacts students in the public school system as they continue to learn.
