Analysis of Knowledge, Belief, Justification, and Truth Between Williamson and Zagzebski

The matter which I wish to study is how philosophers have accounted for such ideas as belief, justification, truth, and knowledge. Particularly, I would like to take Linda Zagzebski’s essay The Inescapability of Gettier Problems, which generalizes issues concerning Justified True Belief (JTB) accounts of Knowledge famously introduced by Edmund L. Gettier in his Is Justified True Belief Knowledge? and expanded upon by various other philosophers over 50 years. Particularly, I plan to look at Timothy Williamson’s Knowledge and its Limits, which attempts to escape the problems presented with the JTB analyses of Knowledge by radically changing our understanding of the concept in suggesting that Knowledge cannot be broken up into internal and external components such as belief. Ultimately, I will examine whether or not Williamson truly provides a unique account of knowledge which escapes the problems of the JTB account of Knowledge as laid out by Zagzebski.
