"The Peace Program" - A Social Justice Community Activism Project
The promotion and teaching of yoga to juvenile delinquents is a form of social justice activism, which fills a community need and enriches the lives of the individuals it engages. The newly launched "Peace Program" at The Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center is seeking foundational research for effective means of therapy. Exploring how yogic and meditative practices parallel the Missouri State Juvenile Justice System's outline for rehabilitation of juveniles provides a basis for this. This program draws methodologies and theories from the disciplines of Psychology, Justice Systems, Sociology, Yoga Studies & Health Science.
