Creating a Perfect Society: Comparing Patriarchies and Matriarchies

Sara J. Wimmer
Dr. Hena Ahmad, Faculty Mentor

Matriarchal societies have a long history, much like patriarchal societies. Comparing these two types of societies and how they differ historically, politically and socially will show how to create a new society. Would either society benefit of adopting policies or changes in order to improve? Comparing modern day patriarchies and matriarchies of the past, such as the tribe of Sufala’najujuko an ancient matriarchy, reveals the differences between these societies. It also reveals that matriarchal societies are inherently more balanced between genders. While patriarchal societies focus on the domination of the female gender, while matriarchies focus on female succession. Finally it is discussed how to create the perfect society and how to move patriarchal societies into the future.
