How to Get Away with Feminism

How to Get Away with Murder is an award winning, primetime drama on ABC. The 2014 season features a group of law students working alongside professor and defense attorney, Annalise Keating, to navigate the world of law as practitioners and perpetrators. Applying Lois Tyson’s scholarly model, feminist undertones are brought to light in order to explain the social messages embedded within writer and producer Peter Nowalk’s creation. Through the characters, recurrent themes of feminism, via race and sexual orientation emerge. The show casts heterosexual, white males in the minority. Strong female and soft male characters invert multiple binaries and create a show of depth and magnitude through their portrayals.
