Because students’ perceptions of wellness can have a positive impact on academic success, this study examined wellness factors by addressing the following question: How do students' perceptions of personal wellness change throughout the course of their first two years at a midwestern liberal arts university. Wellness perceptions were assessed via a series of survey questions presented to students prior to entering college in order to quantify personal physical, intellectual, relational, spiritual, and financial wellness levels. Participants then completed the same survey two years later, and their personal wellness perception scores were compared. Preliminary results include the following: (a) Students’ wellness perceptions were not significantly altered through their first two years of college (b) Trend lines indicate that students' personal wellness perceptions decreased in four of the five categories. Ultimately, changes in the various dimensions of personal wellness are dependent on a variety of factors across the college experience.
