Dr. Brandy Schneider, Faculty Mentor

The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of vibration foam roller effects on pain and recovery after fatigue in a preliminary study. Vibration foam rolling is theorized to decrease pain to increase physical performance multiple days. Limited research has been conducted on vibration foam rollers regarding pain perception during post-exercise recovery. Methods: Subjects were collegiate basketball players. After physical practices, subjects used a vibration foam roller on lower limb muscles then completed a qualitative survey gauging muscle pain and fatigue perceptions. Results: Results of this study revealed vibrating foam rollers were preferred for recovery to reduce post-exercise muscle pain versus foam rollers. Vibrating foam rollers were easier to use and required less force to produce beneficial effects. Conclusion: The evidence from this preliminary study does support previous evidence that vibration foam rollers have a positive effect on reducing muscle pain and fatigue perceptions post physical exercise.
