Tru Skills: A Virtual Platform for Student Skill Exchange and Support

Aamosh B. Thapa
Prof. Nazmul Shahadat, Faculty Mentor

Tru Skills is a proposed virtual platform designed to facilitate peer-to-peer skill exchange and support within the Truman State University community. While existing platforms like TaskRabbit and Fiverr enable service exchange, they often lack affordability, trust, and relevance for campus environments. Tru Skills addresses this gap by providing a secure, student-focused space where individuals can offer or request services such as tutoring, transportation, or event assistance. The project follows a structured development process, including research on existing models, student surveys, backend and frontend development, and prototype testing. By promoting resource-sharing, self-employment, and community engagement, the platform aims to reduce student expenses and strengthen social connections, particularly for new students. Tru Skills also serves as an experiential learning opportunity, allowing participants to develop technical and entrepreneurial skills while contributing to a collaborative campus ecosystem.
