Bulldogs Against Skin Cancer (BASC): Raising Skin Cancer Awareness in College Students
Despite being largely preventable, skin cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the US. This is especially relevant to young adults, as "sun-safe" habits (i.e., avoiding tanning, wearing sunscreen of SPF of at least 30+, avoiding the sun during peak hours, etc.) set during this time period may prevent skin cancer diagnosis in adulthood. This study aims to identify the beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge regarding skin cancer among Truman students to inform the most effective approaches to skin cancer prevention in this population. Using data collected from surveys open to Truman students between 18-24, we will analyze and compare descriptive and inferential statistics to best understand and educate this population going forward.
