Dr. Paul Grobey, Faculty Mentor

Music education in African cultures starts from the home whereby an African parent sings to their children and introduces them to music right from the cradle. Every child can learn music just as he or she can learn how to speak (Suzuki, S 1969:vi).

This study is concentrated on childhood music education in Nigeria. Analysis will be made to provide findings such as availability of learning materials which will include both African and western musical instruments for teaching music in Nigerian primary schools. Learning strategies by the music teachers to ensure fruitful and effective achievement of musical knowledge by the pupils in Nigeria.

This study will justify the perception of significant difference between the music teachers and music educators’ towards the adequacy of delivery of the music learning situations in Nigerian primary schools

A number of recommendations for improvement of music education in Nigerian primary schools will be made.
