Potential of Flavones as α-synuclein Inhibitors for Parkinson‘s Disease: Computational Insights of Baicalein and Derivatives

Parkinson's Disease (PD), a common neurodegenerative condition, involves the misfolding of α-synuclein, a protein leading to brain plaques known as Lewy bodies. Research is aimed at blocking or clearing these plaques. Flavones, particularly baicalin, have emerged as promising inhibitors of α-synuclein aggregation, potentially disaggregating Lewy bodies. Computational chemistry, including molecular dynamics and docking, are used to analyze baicalin's effectiveness and interaction with Lewy bodies. Additionally, flavone derivatives will be compared to identify the most effective compound for disaggregation which could become a novel treatment option for PD. This research could guide future drug development as a scaffold for more specific compounds for treatment.
