Advanced Natural Language Processing to Enhance the Ecosystem of Internet of Things

Tyler J. Bryan
Dr. Ruthie Halma, Faculty Mentor

Modern day smart home devices lack certain features that would make interactions between it and humans more seamless. Using a customized Natural Language Processing algorithm, APIs, and programmable lightbulbs, I developed a program that was able to turn my voice into text, to process and execute the demands to change the ON/OFF status, brightness, and color of multiple lightbulbs. Rigorous testing of the accuracy and ability of the custom software and the smart home devices was done across multiple categories of prompts. The custom software executed 90% of the demands correctly, while the smart home devices performed an average of 43% of the prompts correctly.
