Jesus Fetus

Stephen Poindexter Orozco
Dr. Heidi Cook, Faculty Mentor

This sculpture depicting a fetus nailed to a cross is a critique of contradicting views I see in conservative Christian culture: being "pro-life" and believing in a God that uses child sacrifice (and other violent measures) as a means to an end. However, I acknowledge other interpretations may view this work is assigning unborn fetuses the same value as Jesus Christ himself. Ultimately, I want the viewer to engage with the inevitable cognitive dissonance that comes when we impose our contemporary sensibilities on a historical text.
