Whare I am?

Jinyu Li
Prof. Priya S. Kambli, Faculty Mentor

The famous Chinese writer, Lu Xun, used to write a lot about how Chinese was compressed by the western countries and how terrible life was under the rule of the Nationalist government that was controlled by America. After I read his works and saw how he encouraged us to be brave and be proud of being Chinese no matter what situation happened, I was inspired but also felt lost. I am living in the US right now, a totally different country and cultural community. It’s like opening a gate and going into a room you never entered before.

Once I stepped into the room, everything changed. Consumerism covered my eyes and made me dizzy and wobble around. The sudden change creates the blurriness in my works, both in front of the goods shelf and gas station. I cannot find my place or figure out my position in this world.
