Variable Star Photometry Using a CCD Camera
Ikechukwu P. Okonkwo
Dr. Matthew M. Beaky, Faculty Mentor

Variable stars change their luminosity over time, with the period of the brightness change ranging from a fraction of a second to several years. Research was conducted at the Truman State University Observatory using a CCD camera linked to computer workstation and the astronomical software package CCDSoft. The aim was to make highly accurate measurements of the magnitude variation of a chosen set of program stars within the northern sky, and to submit the data obtained to an international variable star database. Experimental methods will be described, and light curves for selected program stars will be presented.
