Portraiture to me is more than just an image of a person. I believe a portrait captures a part of a person that can at times be elusive. An individual’s entire personality cannot fully be represented in one photograph, but a single aspect can. By talking with or simply observing my subjects, I try to find qualities about them that perhaps others don’t readily see or appreciate and express those qualities in an image. I like to use solid backgrounds rather than doing site-based photography in order to emphasize the subject and express the mood based on body language, costume and make-up. The finished presentation with include 10-15 prints on size 11”x14” paper, matted. The size of each matted piece should not exceed 14”x17”.
