Fair Trade Perceptions

Isis Baker
Dr. Mary Shapiro, Faculty Mentor

There are many trade inequalities between the global north and the global south. Fair trade is one practice that is supposed to level this inequality; however, this might not be the case. Large corporations advertise to consumers that they follow fair trade practices so that consumers will by their products. It has come into question if companies are actually following these rules and if fair trade practices are even set up to solve the issues with inequalities. While fair trade is not perfect there are ways in which farmers and companies can improve their practices to ensure that fair trade practices meet the expectations of the consumers and help solve trade inequality issues.
