An arrangement of a periodic array of dielectric rods is known as a photonic crystal. Photonic crystals result in large frequency regions of no light transmission, and other regions of perfect transmission. A photonic crystal was constructed and microwaves were sent through the crystal in both the transverse magnetic and transverse electric mode, and transmission was recorded. Defect modes including the Fabry-Perot mode were then introduced to the crystal and their effect recorded.
