Dr. Carol Cox, Faculty Mentor
Gammans attended training by the Director of Preferred Family Health Care, who informed them of behavioral and confidentiality requirements while at their facility. Gammans then visited PFHC each week and presented lessons on various health related topics to a group of teens previously involved in substance abuse. Through education Gammans hoped the youth would acquire the knowledge and skills to decrease risk taking behaviors. In the future as health educators, we will continue to educate at risk youth in small groups with hopes to decrease risk taking behaviors. By the end of our sessions, youth found it easier to voice problems to Gammans and stated that the knowledge gained has empowered them to make better decisions.
