School Counseling Guidance Activities; Problems and Improvements
Madeline S. Herrmann♦
Dr. Christopher Maglio, Faculty Mentor

This paper is an examination of the historical development of school counseling. Following the history I discuss the current state of school counseling and the problem plaguing the field. These problems include things like the ineffective delivery of guidance activities and the practice of hiring under qualified professionals that leads to the use of prepackaged guidance activities. This leads to an idea that school counselors in general do not have training to do the job they are expected to do. I also suggest solutions for these problems.
